This painting is from a photo I took on a trip to China in 2013. It is of a Tibetan woman caught in a contemplative mood in the Palcho Monastery of Gyantse, Tibet. She is looking to the left, which I chose to pictoriallize as looking into the past, something Tibetans have become inured to over the years as they see their culture disappearing -- hence, the title.
